On May 06 The European Disc Golf Federation (EDGF) announced the Czech Disc Golf Association as the winning bidder for hosting the joint EDGC/EMDGC in 2020. From 2020 and on, the EDGF shall be hosting two separate european championships: one "regular" or open championship shall be the European Disc Golf Championships, and an age protected tournament shall be the European Masters Disc Golf Championships: according to the recent decision of the EDGF, the two events will be held as a joint event in Konopiste, between 14 and 20 August, 2020. This means that Konopiste will give home to 300 european disc golf players in the largest event the Czech Republic has ever hosted.
Unfortunately the Hungarian bid (Szarvas, Arboretum) for hosting the EMDGC has not received the necessary amount of support from the EDGF. It is nervtheless the firm intention of the Hungarian association to keep on trying, and submitting another bid for a future larger event.
Richard Kollar, EDGF president had this to say about the bidding procedure: “We are extremely happy that EDGF has received four truly strong bids for our new format of European Disc Golf Championships - in addition to Czech Republic also for a joint event in Jõulumäe, Estonia, for EDGC in Sula, Norway, and for EMDGC is Szarvas, Hugary. It was definitely not easy to select the final host as each of the bids featured experienced organizing teams, a great event venue and sound external financial and local organizational support,” stated EDGF president Richard Kollár. “The winning bid of Czech Republic, that won the selection vote by a narrow margin, offers two championship level courses with manicured fairways next to each other and also a site proved to be able to properly host a record number (300) of players at EDGC/EMDGC, and all of that in a proximity of one of the most beautiful cities in Europe - Prague. Many thanks to the local organizing committee, Czech Association of Disc Golf, city of Benešov, Lesy České Republiky, and event partners Discmania and DiscGolfPark who will putt together an exciting event that will showcase the best European disc golf.”
